This is a little strange thing. And I hope, fingers crossed, that it is a unique idea, if its not then blow that for a game of soldiers. Enjoy.
What if…
She ran her fingers gracefully over the controls one last time to make sure everything was in perfect, working order. Speed is one thing, but a mishap whilst on the Kessel Run can very quickly turn into a death trap. She fired her engines.
Glancing out to port, she spied the Fire just lifting off, light on her feet. She opened the comm. "So. You up for it?" She giggled, this just felt sssoooo childish.
The voice on the other end was soft and fluttery, with just a tang of mischief. "Why not?" Mirax could hear the amusement in the other woman's voice. She felt like she was sixteen again, this was just the sort of stupid, reckless thing the younger Mirax would have done, she could just imagine her father's voice berating her, telling her she shouldn't take such risks.
She pulled the Skate up alongside the Fire and softly giggled again. Then turning slightly more serious, "Mara, promise me you won't do anything stupid." She tensed in her chair. If there was one thing Mara Jade didn't like, it was other people questioning her ability to look after herself. If the past few months had taught her anything about her new partner, it was that.
Silence.
Soft, gentle laughter, "You have some gall Terrik." She relaxed. "See you on the other side." Jade's Fire suddenly rocketed, speeding off at maximum velocity. Mirax cut the comm, "it's a race, Jade." She smiled smugly, "and this is one, I'm planning to win." Engines whined, lights flashed and stars blurred, until the fire was no spot fading into the distance, rather a point on the horizon soon to be met.
Mara sighed, now this was where she loved to be. In the cockpit of her ship, doing the thing she was good at, with a partner who was almost as good as her. She smirked, and just as much fun. She flared the engines. This was only the second time she'd flown the Kessel Run, and already she felt like an old pro. It was made for her.
Technically Mirax had the advantage, she had been doing this all her life. Mara wasn't about to let a little thing like that stop her.
She flexed nimble fingers inside leather gloves. The Maw. Now this would be interesting. Her fingers danced, trying to coax more speed from the already buzzing engines.
The blur of the black hole cluster was becoming more focused on her screen, instead of just a purple grey mishmash of a nebular, it now looked rather more like the fearsome jaws of a hungry monster, something more worthy of the name, the Maw. She was close enough now to see the glow of the stars, the ion trails running through like the lines of skaters on ice, and the ripples of colour, not to mention the eyes. Mara involuntarily shivered. The black holes, the eyes the monster, they were the real danger of the Maw.
She checked for the Skate, still quite a way behind, but gaining. No fuss, the Skate may be faster but Mara knew the Fire had the better control, when it came to the Pit she'd have the advantage of higher rate manoeuvrability.
Still, it wouldn't hurt to be first in. As the first of the series of small hole clusters sped towards her, she kept her eyes static between the screen and the indicating boards. Checking position, flight-path, speed… she wanted to be as close as possible, but too close and this just might be the last Run she did. Getting sucked into a black hole, while running spice, wasn't exactly the way she planned to go. It'd have to be more frivolously spectacular than that. Quite a hell of a lot more.
Jerking in her seat as the Skate was pulled in to the gravity field of a larger asteroid, Mirax swore as she bashed her head on the control board. Her eyes blurred for a moment, but she quickly blinked the tears away, there was no time to wipe hand across face.
She leaned forward over the monitors, adjusting controls, she had to swing off at the right angle, this was the tough bit. At the last moment she fired the engines and went spinning off. Just past a smaller asteroid and round the next, using its pull on her to swing her up she found a few seconds breather and checked for the Fire. She ducked then swerved. Rats! Nearly five minutes gap. This wasn't fair! She'd made up on Jade's lead with in minutes and had entered the Pit way ahead, but with the mass of the Skate, she was hard pressed to match the Fire in this.
She could feel her pulse beating at her temples, a beat of sweat was working its path down her neck but she didn't take her eyes off the monitors. She pressed up the speed, you had to go into the pit fast, it was the only way to do it, but she never appreciated going to fast this close to big chunks of rock.
She took a breath, she was going to have to risk it, loosing now after all the hype she's given Mara this morning? Not a chance in hell she live it down, she diving into the thick off it engines roaring, she'd have to close her eyes and hope for the best.
Not literally.
Mara absentmindedly ran a hand through her fire-red hair. On the next swoop she clipped a bolder with her wing then seared the underside of her belly before she regained both hands on the controls.
She hurriedly bleeped the comm, "watch the starboard Terrik." She was quickly involved again with her own battle with the controls, nearly missing her friends grudging reply of thanks. She grimaced, the girl should have seen that one coming, she took a glance at the read outs then her head snapped back round to glare at them. Mirax couldn't be gaining again, this was her turf! The Skate shouldn't be going that fast, no way! She flicked up her own velocity to match that of the Skate. This was getting serious.
Her force enhanced senses flared. She flipped the Fire, barely missing the satellite of one of the larger asteroids.
Concentrate Jade.
Okay, see, as you can tell I don't really know what I'm on about, but hay it's just a bit of fun. Now, before you ask, not that you were going to coz I know your like a really nice person and everything, but no I'm not just stopping coz I've run out of things to say, or because I canny be bothered to write anymore, although that does kinda come into it. The thing is I don't actually know how to end this. I've got some ideas, well duh, it's be a bit silly it I hadn't but yeah, I was just wondering if you could tell me which one you thought was best.
If for some strange weird and wonderful reason you did want to write in please email me at
